From May 2016, we will change the way of collecting waste from low-rise buildings in Wageningen.

Why?

A large portion of the waste in your grey container still contains materials that are fit for recycling and which we can use as components for new products.  Examples are plastics, textiles, organic waste, paper and glass. This is a shame, because we can recycle and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by seperating waste beter.

What are the changes?

1. PMD-container

From May on you can throw away plastic and metal packaging (cans) and drink cartons (PMD) in your grey container. This will make it easier for you to recycle these materials. Your grey container will receive PMD-stickers. If you would like to know when exactly your grey container will receive PMD-stickers, please send an e-mail to wageningen@acv-groep.nl. This action will take place between 18 - 30 april.

2. Small container for non-recyclable waste

Because you can dispose of metal packaging and drink cartons together with plastic waste in the grey container, you have less non-recycle waste. All low-rise buildings will therefore receive a new small green container with a grey lid for non recyclable waste. This is a 140 liter sized container*), which is the same size as your current paper waste container). If you would like to know when exactly your wlid ill receive the new small green container with a grey lid for non recycleable waste, please send an e-mail to wageningen@acv-groep.nl. This action will take place between 18 - 30 april.

3. The containers will be emptied once every 3 weeks, new pick up days

Because you will use the grey container for PMD and you can seperate more waste, we will change the pick up frequency. The containers for PMD, used paper and non-recyclable waste will be emptied once every 3 weeks. Your container for organic waste and food residues will still be emptied once every two weeks.
Furthermore, your pick up days will change. Please refer to www.mijnafvalwijzer.nl or download the app ‘Afvalwijzer’. The pick up days will change on januari 1st as well as from the 11th of May on.

If you would like more information about the changes and what they will mean for your household, please send an e-mail to wageningen@acv-groep.nl.

4. Exception for city centre and part of Tarhorst with patios

The grey container you currently own, will be used for PMD from the end of April on. From that moment, non-recyclable waste will have to be disposed of in a nearby (underground) shared container. Reason for this is that street space in your neighborhood is limited as it is; an extra container is not possible.

*If you still want a big 240 liter sized container, it was possible to register yourself until 22th of January 2016. A big 240 liter sized container is not for free, your waste taxes will be increased by 70 euro each year. The reason for this is that the municipality of Wageningen and ACV want to stimulate seperating waste. With less space in the container for non-recyclable waste, you have to seperate paper, plastic (+ metals and cans), organic waste, textiles and glass more thoroughly.
